History
What is Bar Surfing?
Founded in 2017, Bar Surfing was inspired by the famous "Cocktail Week" event held in various international cities. Including London, Berlin, ad Tokyo…etc. In recent years, Bar Surfing has grown into a considerable scale and has become one of the most unique events in Taiwan.

How is 2021 Bar Surfing different?
Through connecting the idea of cocktail with Taiwan's indigenous cultures, i hope to transform the idea of "Bar hopping" into a deep adventure within the diverse cities in Taiwan. While embracing the bar culture internationally, I hope to bring out the unique essence of Taiwanese cocktail through different dimensions.
Design Concept
A real-life bar hopping monopoly game!
Taking the concept of the "Monopoly" game as the metaphor of "Bar hopping", despite the location, time, identity, and intention, anything can become the spark of something new.
Bringing upon the best quality of an international event, Bar Surfing 2021 still preserves the local Taiwanese culture. With the diverse elements in the design, I strive to present the infinite possibility of the bar culture.
Design artifacts
In order to facilitate a smoother immersion into the context, I designed the app’s scenery with a narrative approach. I created a world view centered around a grand canyon, combining the avatar’s attributes of the glider to convey a sense of adventurous freedom. This concept will also be further extended in the future UI design of the app.

Narrate a story that engages the users!
One of the most impactful approaches that I discovered throughout the project is the power of engaging users into the story. To be able to tell the story and get people involved in it, I spent a lot of time developing the background story and conveying it through illustrations and interactive components. This was definitely the most fun and exciting part of the design.

Search for the most effective, but also fun!
During the ideation process of this project, I really enjoyed gathering inspirations through a variety of aspects. Thinking outside the box to look for the spark that leads to touching design solutions. I was able to come up with an ultimate solution that connects deeply with the emotional side of the users, and at the same time provide functional solutions to the problem.
